In support of Norris emergency services
Members of the group Citizens in Support of Norris Police and Fire sponsored the event, which also included games and water fun for kids, a silent auction and other activities.
There was also a hot dog and hamburger lunch served by the volunteers in the Lions Club Pavilion.
City Councilman Will Grinder, who started the group about three years ago right after he moved to Norris, was the grill master, turning out the burger patties and wieners for the lunch table.
Grinder, who lives next door to the police and fire department headquarters building in downtown Norris, was elected to the city council in November 2020.
“It’s just something I wanted to get started when I moved here,” he said of the Citizens in Support group.
“We started out as Citizens in Support of Norris Police, but then we added the Fire Department.”
Saturday’s event ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Fire Department brought one of the city’s fire trucks to the event, and parked it in the middle school front lawn.
This was the second year in a row that the group has sponsored the event.
The first one was last June.
“We just wanted to do something to show appreciation for what our police and fire departments do for our city,” Grinder said.
