New Purpose, a center for “intensive outpatient treatment” for drug and alcohol abusers, plans a ribbon-cutting June 24 across from the Anderson County Courthouse in downtown Clinton.

Kristen Owens, one of three principals responsible for the new facility, said New Purpose will take “private-pay and insurance-funded clients,” and will operate out of the building at 109 Leinart St. that formerly housed The Real Estate Firm.

“We’re now in the process of getting contracts with insurance companies so we can assist as many people as possible,” Owens said.

The founders of the center are Owens, a Rocky Top native who said she has a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Purdue University; Chris Tackett, pastor of the Rocky Top Worship Center; and Allen Roberts, a licensed alcohol and drug-abuse counselor.

Owens said that besides being a therapist at the center, she also serves as its compliance officer. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, she said.

The grand opening event on Friday, June 24, will begin with a “meet and greet” at 11 a.m., followed by the ribbon cutting with guest speakers at 11:30 a.m. and a silent auction from noon-2 p.m.

Owens said the guest speakers will include Anderson County Mayor Terry Frank, District 4 County Commissioner Shain Vowell, and Perry Lewis, director of the Seventh Judicial District Crime Task Force.

New Purpose actually won’t open for clients until July 5, Owens said.
