Oak Ridge squads take second (boys) and third (girls)
In cross country, the top five runners figure in team scoring.
Sometimes, however, the sixth athlete can have an impact.
That was the case last week for the Oak Ridge Lady Wildcats.
Oak Ridge finished in a third-place tie at the Region 2-AAA Championships. The Lady Wildcats and Bearden each finished with 92 team points and Oak Ridge was awarded third place on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Victor Ashe Park.
The Lady Wildcats, who will advance to this week’s state championships at Sanders Ferry Park in Hendersonville Friday, claimed third place as they won via a tie-breaker.
Oak Ridge’s Karen Molina was the team’s sixth-finisher, as she crossed the finish line in 24 minutes, 15.13 seconds, claiming 30th place overall. Her time was better than Bearden’s No. 6 runner.
Farragut claimed the region title with 44 points. Hardin Valley Academy finished second (53) with Bearden and the Lady Wildcats each totaling 92 points.
Dylan Job was Oak Ridge’s top individual finisher. She finished third, completing the 5K course in 19:42.03. Thora Spence finished 16th (22:11.61). Odelia Kneiser came in 20th (22:48.57).

The Oak Ridge boys also finished second. Farragut won the title and Hardin Valley finished third.
“It was big for us to beat Hardin Valley; it had been a long time since we’d beaten them,” ORHS Coach Ed Wright said. “We’re excited.”
The Admirals finished with 17 points, followed by the Wildcats (77), the Hawks (79) and Bearden (98).
