Tree planting event at Jaycee Park Friday
Historic Downtown Clinton, in partnership with the city of Clinton’s Tree Board, would like to invite the community to Jaycee Park at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, to plant 35 new trees.
Historic Downtown Clinton was awarded an Urban TAEP Community Tree Planting Grant through the Tennessee Department of Agriculture to pay for these trees with a match from the city of Clinton.
The purpose of this project is to increase the number of trees and the tree canopy cover at Jaycee Park, as it is a municipal park with a strand of naturally occurring legacy trees that were present at the time of the park’s creation 60 years ago. Several of those original trees have been lost to storm damage.
Clinton High School’s FFA students will be helping plant the trees on Nov. 11.
Historic Downtown Clinton’s mission is to revitalize the downtown area and beyond.
Revitalization is the promise of new life, and planting new trees is doing just that. The hope is that this project will bring a sense of comfort in community gatherings and will demonstrate the importance of tree maintenance and replanting.
The group gives special thanks to Riley Sain, chair of the city’s Tree Board, for his leadership on this project and his passion for making sure Clinton remains a Tree City.
