Oak Ridge High School’s boys basketball team kept its perfect record intact with a pair of easy victories early last week.

But Head Coach Aaron Green, although pleased, said that plenty of work lies ahead for his young Wildcats.

Oak Ridge closed out the abbreviated holiday week with a 71-51 win over Cocke County on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at the Smoky Mountain Thanksgiving Classic at Sevier County High School.

“These were two good wins over two solid teams,” Green said.

“We’re off to a good start, but we still have a lot of work to do and a lot of things to improve on.

“We shot really well in both of those games.”

Against the Fighting Cocks, the Wildcats had four players post double figures in the scoring column.

Grayson Strader led the way with 18 points, Brennan Scott added 14, Kaden Brightharp finished with 12 and Ra’Quan Watson had 10.

Against the Cherokees, who were without their top player Tai Cates, Strader scored 19 points. Scott had 14 and Lukas Hammons finished with 11.

“South-Doyle is pretty good but they were a little short-handed because the Cates kid didn’t play,” Green said.

Cates is a highly coveted recruit from the Knoxville Area and the Cherokees’ top scorer.
