Oak Ridge High School’s boys basketball team saw its fast start continue with two more victories last week.

The Wildcats have now opened District 3-4A play and they picked a pair of wins and have a share of the top spot in the league standings.

Oak Ridge kept its perfect record intact with a 63-53 win over Knoxville Central Friday night in Fountain City.

“No doubt that that was a big win for us,” Wildcats’ coach Aaron Green said after his team improved to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the district. It was a good win. Any district win is a good win, especially on the road.

“Central is a talented team with a lot of great players. They probably have some of the best shooters that we’ve seen all year.

“We were able to get out ahead of them and we got it done.”

Grayson Strader scored 14 points against the Bobcats. Lucas Hammons added 11 and Quez Thomas finished with eight for the Wildcats, who opened district play with a 67-53 win over Powell on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at Wildcat Arena.

Brennen Scott scored 21 points to lead Oak Ridge. Hammons had 14 and Kaden Brightharp finished with 10 in a game that renewed one of the area’s fiercest rivalries.

“Powell always plays us tough, regardless of record and we shot the ball really well,” Green said.

Even with an undefeated record, Green said his team must continue to improve.

“We had big wins against Powell and Central and Brennen Scott has scored the ball really well and Kaden Brightharp has played well,” Green said. “Lucas has played well and we’re getting contributions from young players.

“But we have to continue to get better. We have to continue to play defense and we have to continue to rebound. We still have a lot to improve on, a lot to get better at.”
