Addressing ‘food insecurity’ in the county

Upon the request of Anderson County Mayor Terry Frank, county commissioners in their Dec. 19 meeting approved a resolution authorizing the mayor to apply for a Community Development Block Grant to address “food insecurity.”

The amount of the grant will be up to $500,000. This is a zero-match grant, and the county will be working with the school system to distribute food to low-income communities.

The grant would be one of many community outreach programs the Anderson County School System takes part in.

“All our schools give back to the community,” Dr. Tim Parrott, director of the school system, said as he listed the different charitable organizations the schools support.

Also at the request of the county mayor, commissioners reappointed John Stair to the Powell Clinch Utility District with a term expiring Dec. 31, 2026.

They also confirmed the mayor’s appointment of Ernie Bowels to the Anderson County Economic Development Association, with a term expiring in September 2026.
