Clinton Middle Hawks baseball and Lady Hawks softball teams have been set for the 2023 season. Both teams are looking to continue recent success after both teams scored postseason trophies in the 2022 season.

Hawks baseball has a new coaching staff, including Head Coach Jake Lowe and Assistant Coach Kevin Powers.

“We are already seeing players from last year making improvements in preseason workouts and have driven home a mentality of always looking to what’s next,” Powers reports.

Lady Hawks softball Head Coach Brooklynn Sellers, in her second year at the helm, focused her preseason comments on the talents of our kids at CMS.

“This is a new year, and I plan to treat it as such,” Sellers told Hawk Talk staff. “We have so much talent at this school, and there is potential for a great season.”

The Lady Hawks are looking for a spot in the state championship after making it to the sectional rounds last season.

The baseball Hawks will play at home in the season opener against Oliver Springs at 6 p.m. Feb. 27.

The Lady Hawks softball team will open its season on March 6, also hosting Oliver Springs, at 6 p.m.

Clinton Middle School teacher and soccer coach Cassie Franse, has started a soccer club after much student interest.

About 20 to 25 members, both boys and girls, have been meeting regularly on Tuesday afternoons.

Franse reports that “This club teaches students the fundamentals, such as passing, dribbling, shooting, and basic positions.”

They meet in the cafeteria on Tuesdays, and do homework for an hour. Their goal is to get together an official team.

The “Dream It. Do It.” team at Clinton Middle, led by teacher Jonathan Lewis, has been working with the company Magna Automotive of Eagle Bend this year.

Lewis stated that the purpose of the project they have been working on is to “promote manufacturing careers in Anderson County.”

The process is a whole year project in producing a video in partnership with a local manufacturer. The team is hoping to finish in two months, as it is ahead of schedule.

Until next week…
