A long losing streak came to an end Saturday night for the Clinton High School boys basketball team.

The Dragons stopped a 10-game skid as they outlasted Maryville Christian School 50-38 in their regular-season finale at the Don W. Lockard Gymnasium.

“That last stretch of the (regular) season was really tough, but we were playing some top-tier quality teams,” Clinton Coach Chris Lockard said. “We’re playing teams like Oak Ridge, Karns and Fulton.

“But now, our real season starts Friday.”

The “real” season begins for the Dragons on Friday with the District 4-AAA Tournament, which will be held at CHS.

The No. 4 Dragons will play top-seeded Knoxville Halls at 7:30 p.m.

“The team chemistry is good and I’m happy with where we’re at,” Lockard said. “The atmosphere with the coaches and the players around here is that all of this work has paid off,” he said.

The Dragons (8-19) are certainly headed into the postseason with a little momentum thanks to the win against Maryville Christian over the weekend, and a solid effort in a 74-61 loss to cross-county rival Oak Ridge at home Thursday night.

Against Maryville Christian, the Dragons had a 29-18 lead at halftime. Clinton had three players post double figures in the scoring column. Jeremiah Lee led the way with 14 points. Bryson Maddox added 11 points, while Lebron Booker finished with 10.

Lee also pulled down five rebounds and dished out two assists for the Dragons. Booker had four assists and three rebounds.

Against the Wildcats, Maddox pumped in 22 points.

Lee had 13 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Booker finished with 10 points, five rebounds and two assists.

Kaden Ison finished with seven points.
