The Clinton High School girls basketball team split a pair of games late last week.

The Lady Dragons closed out the regular season Saturday night with a 69-45 victory over Maryville Christian at the Don W. Lockard Gymnasium.

On Thursday, Clinton lost to Oak Ridge 65-40 on a night when the team paid tribute to the late Craig Dixon, a longtime assistant coach who passed away on June 25, 2022, from heart disease.

Fans were asked to wear red for Heart Disease Awareness, or Clinton Orange.

In an emotional ceremony between the Lady Dragons game and the Dragons taking the court, a large banner was brought out honoring Dixon. Numerous signs were posted on the walls of Don Lockard Gymnasium as well.

The Lady Dragons have played the 2022-23 season with an empty coach’s chair on their side of the bench bearing Dixon’s name.

The Lady Dragons will now host the District 4-AAA Tournament.

Clinton (4-2 in district play during the regular season) is the No. 2 seed.
