Mavs are finding success

After dropping its first three games of the 2023 season, the Anderson County High School baseball team is starting to show some success.

The Mavericks have now won four of their last five games, including three in a row.

After opening the week on Monday, March 20, with a 7-2 loss to Carter at home, ACHS (4-4) made the return trip to Strawberry Plains and topped the Hornets 10-1.

The Mavericks returned to the diamond Friday night and notched a 6-3 victory against Karns on the road.

Anderson County was facing a 2-1 deficit when it came up with a pair of timely hits and scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Morgan Clark and Reece Wilkerson both had two-run singles in the frame.

The Mavs added a run in the sixth, and Karns scored in the seventh.

Anderson County Coach Josh Boynton said he’s pleased that his young squad is winning.

“These guys are starting to find out that they can have a little success,” Boynton said. “But we’ve still got to clean some things up.

“We’ve got to clean up some things on defense, and our pitchers have to throw more strikes. But the hitting, especially the timely hits, was big for us.”

Alex Bond went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI while Aydin Bond went 2-for-4 and drove in a pair for the Mavericks, who opened a 6-1 lead against the Cherokees.
