I’m not buying it

EDITOR:

The April 12, 2023, letter from Elizabeth Ibbotson (“Our democracy is in trouble”), chair, Anderson County Democratic Party, is indicative of the left’s penchant for false narratives and divisive politics. In short, Ms. Ibbotson should take a refresher course in U.S. History 101. In their infinite wisdom, the Founding Fathers eschewed a “democracy” in favor of a Republic. The Founders knew that a “democracy” would be a gateway to “mob rule.”

An attempt at “mob rule” was exactly what we recently saw in Nashville. And if one calls this “insurrection” what it really was, or demands accountability, Ms. Ibbotson, in true Democrat form, plays the “bigoted” card to the Nth degree. It is both shameful and predictable. Most importantly, it is divisive and destructive to the State of Tennessee and to the nation.

On Dec. 17, 1814, John Adams wrote, “Remember Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself. There never was a Democracy, yet, that did not commit suicide.”

Today’s Democrat party feasts on crime, chaos, poverty and destruction, and they are diligently working to destroy the nation with false narratives and the incessant usage of “isms.”

I’m not buying what Ms. Ibbotson is selling. As Benjamin Franklin once said, we are a Republic “if we can keep it.”

Much to the chagrin of Ms. Ibbotson, I vote to “keep it.” Thanks to today’s Democrat party, it isn’t “our democracy” that is “in trouble.”

Our Republic, however, is in deep trouble due to endless waves of divisive politics and a lack of election integrity.

Perhaps Ms. Ibbotson needs to contact George Soros and the DNC for new (and more-effective) talking points in relation to selling revisionist history.
