Bree McKamey came up with a stellar performance in the pitcher’s circle as the Clinton High School softball team opened postseason play on a winning note.

McKamey, a junior, hurled a complete game two-hit shutout as the Lady Dragons blanked rival Anderson County 8-0 in the opening round of the District 4-AA Tournament Monday night at ACHS.

McKamey went seven innings and struck out 11 Lady Mavericks, and didn’t walk a batter.

“She was just on fire tonight; she was dominant on the mound,” Clinton Coach Leonard Sams said of McKamey. “They only put four balls in play tonight.”

She also contributed at the plate as she went 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI for the third-seeded Lady Dragons (22-8), who scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning. CHS added runs in the second before scoring three more in the fifth.

Freshman Lynlee Adkins gave the Lady Dragons the lead with a two-run double in the first, and the top of the order delivered in a big way against the No. 3 Lady Mavericks (14-13-1).

Adkins finished 2-for-3. Addi Gamble was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. She also drove in a pair. Taylor Sherwood was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

“Lynlee hit the ball well today and the top of the order was really good for us,” Sams said. “We struggled in the middle of the order a little bit. We left a lot of runners on base today.”

Kaylin McKamey and Mckenna Miller, meanwhile, each had singles for Anderson County.

“We just couldn’t hit the ball tonight,” Lady Mavericks Coach Allen Russell said. “We didn’t hit anything on the ground, and we just had a bunch of popups.”

With the win, the Lady Dragons advanced to the winners’ bracket where they played Knoxville Halls Tuesday. Anderson County dropped to the losers’ bracket and played an elimination game against Scott Tuesday. Results were not available at press time.
