Dragons fall in bid to win dual crowns

The 2023 baseball season came to an end for Clinton High School Saturday.

The Dragons, the tournament’s top seed, were eliminated from the District 4-AAA by rival Anderson County at Jaycee Park.

Clinton fell behind 6-1 before mounting a late comeback effort that came up short in a 7-6 loss to the Mavericks, the No. 3 seed, who will be heading to this week’s Region 2-AAA Tournament.

The tournament opens Friday at Gibbs High School in Corryton.

The Dragons made four errors in their final game of the season.

Cam Britton and Garrett Lee had three hits each for Clinton. Britton went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs.

Lee was 3-for-4 and drove in two runs. Sam Raley had two hits and knocked in a run and Harrison Shelton had two hits, driving in a run and scoring another.

Clinton opened tournament play Thursday with a 10-0 victory over Scott.

Against the Highlanders, Isaiah Slaven was 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored.

Britton went 2-for-2 and scored three times. He also drove in a run and stole a base. Lee had two hits, including a double. He scored a run and drove in four. Jackson Stiltner had two hits and drove in three runs, while Ethan Tinker scored two runs and swiped a pair of bags. He also scored twice.

Clinton dropped a 3-1 decision to Knoxville Halls on Friday despite getting three hits from Britton.
