Norris will be getting a new restaurant in the downtown commercial plaza in June to replace the Twisted Sisters Bakery, which closed in April after being open only about eight months.

Big Mo’s, which primarily will be a lunch place, will be operated by Mark Thomas, the butcher at the adjacent Archer’s Food Center, and his business partner, Tim Mays.

“Our restaurant will be named after our signature burger, the Big Mo, which has three quarter-pound hamburger patties, six slices of bacon and four slices of cheese,” Thomas said.

The new eatery will also serve such items as hot dogs, pulled pork barbecue, ribs, smoked bologna and chopped chicken sandwiches, Thomas said.

Initially Big Mo’s will be open only on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Thomas said.

“We hope to begin opening for breakfast later on,” he said, as well as perhaps expanding the days of operation.

“I’ve been trained in short orders, so we will also be doing that,” he said. “For instance, if someone asks for a grilled ham, egg and cheese sandwich, we’ll make it for them.”

Thomas, who lives in Powell, said he will continue to work as the butcher at Archer’s, a job he’s held for the past three months.

He said he has been a butcher for 23 years, and also has been to culinary school, and enjoys cooking.

Before Twisted Sisters opened last August, the space at the east end of the commercial building had housed the Sweet Café for about three years.

After the Sweet Café closed in February 2022, sisters Alecia Jackson and Katie Eslinger announced plans to open the Twisted Sisters Bakery, with plans eventually to add a dine-in deli in the space.

That never really materialized, however, and one of the sisters backed out of the business just a few weeks after it opened.

The restaurant space is completely empty now, and Thomas said he is waiting for renovations and equipment installation to be completed before he and Mays can open Big Mo’s.

“We’re shooting for the first weekend in June,” he said.
