Rain holds off as 200-plus turn out for Norris event in support of fire, police
“We got lucky and just beat the rain,” said city Councilman Will Grinder, who coordinated the event in his role as founder of the group Citizens in Support of Norris Police and Fire.
“It looked like everybody had a good time,” he said. “We would like to thank everybody who came out to have lunch with us. Most of the money raised will be split up between the fire and police departments in the next couple of months for equipment purchases.”
Grinder and other volunteers grilled hot dogs and burgers in the front of the fire and police station and served food in the Lions Club Pavilion in front of Norris Middle School for the event, which ran from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Adam Warren of the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office gave the crowd a demonstration of the abilities of the police K-9 Axel on the lawn in front of the middle school, including drug detection and suspect apprehension techniques.
Also included were games for kids and a silent auction to benefit the police and fire departments.
