Robertsville Rams pick up second win with a shutout, 38-0
Robertsville Middle School football coach Tyler Carr has to like what he’s seen from the Rams on the gridiron early in the 2023 season.
Robertsville, which opened its season with a victory over Clinton at Blankenship Field on Thursday, Aug.3, notched its second consecutive win at home, shutting out Christian Academy of Knoxville, 38-0, Thursday night.
“I felt pretty good after the game,” Carr said after watching his team blank the Warriors at Blankenship Stadium.
The defense started the onslaught for the Rams (2-0) when Josiah McClure returned an interception in the end zone and returned it the length of the field for a touchdown.
“Josiah had that interception. I think it was at the start of the second quarter and that really got us going,” Carr said.
McClure also scored a touchdown on offense when he caught a scoring strike from Whit Renegar.
Renegar, the Rams’ field general, had a big game against the Warriors as he threw another touchdown pass to Liam Gerber. Renegar also found the end zone on a scoring run and Trace Jackson added a rushing touchdown for Robertsville.
The Rams return to action this week as they hit the road for the first time.
They travel to Loudon County to face off against Lenoir City.
Kickoff is slated for 6:30 p.m.
The first road trip of the season concerns Carr, the Rams’ second-year head coach.
“The day is just going to look different and when you go on the road, it changes your routine,” he said.
“When you change your routine, it’s different and I think that’s a bigger deal for middle school kids than it is for a high school team.
“When we play a game at home, the kids go home after school and then they meet us at the stadium.
“This week, they’re going to stay here with us and then we’ll catch the bus and ride over there.”
