After beating Jefferson, Roberstville is No. 3 seed in playoffs
A wild victory against a crosstown rival netted the Robertsville Middle School football team a playoff berth last week.
The Rams outlasted Jefferson 50-35 Thursday night at Blankenship Field.
By virtue of its win, Robertsville (5-3) will be the No. 3 seed in the postseason, which begins this week.
The Rams will be on the road against second seed Spring City (7-1) Thursday with kickoff slated for 6:30 p.m. in Rhea County. In the regular-season meeting, Spring City successfully executed a Hail Mary on the final play of the contest, leaving the field with a 20-16 win.
“We had a tough game against Spring City; we lost on the last play of the game, but we still have all of our goals on the table,” Rams Coach Tyler Carr said. “We’re still in contention to win a championship.”
In the season finale against Jefferson, Trace Jackson scored a pair of rushing touchdowns and quarterback Kipton Feagan accounted for four scores as he threw three touchdown passes and found the end zone on a run. Whit Renegar and Josiah McClure each had scoring receptions.
In other area action: Norris remained undefeated and clinched the top seed as it defeated Clinton 26-22 last week.
The Senators (8-0) hosted the Hawks in a playoff rematch Tuesday but results were not available at press time.
Lakers fall to Cumberland Gap: Lake City lost 56-6 to Cumberland Gap. Jaylen Nolan threw a touchdown pass to Calvin Graham for the Lakers.
Lake City played Huntsville Tuesday, but results were unavailable at press time. The Lakers will play Oct. 4 at Jellico in a makeup game rescheduled from last month.
