Robertsville advances past Spring City in playoffs

Robertsville Middle School’s football team opened the playoffs with a road victory over Spring City Thursday night.

The third-seeded Rams outlasted No. 2 Spring City 14-8 in a first-round matchup, avenging a last-second 20-16 regular-season loss.

Kipton Feagan had two touchdown passes, connecting with Liam Gerber and Josiah McClure on scoring strikes.

McClure, a two-way player for the Rams, had an interception, his sixth of the season.

Robertsville Coach Tyler Carr said that McClure is emerging as a two-way star for his team.

“I think that was his sixth interception, and two or three of those were Pick 6’s,” Carr said of McClure. “He’s a seventh-grader and didn’t play last year, but the game’s really coming to him.

“He’s been intercepting passes on defense, and now, he’s caught a touchdown pass. He’s really emerging as an impact player on both sides of the ball for us.”

The Rams (6-3) will play for the 2023 championship when they travel to face top-seeded Norris (9-0).

Kickoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. at Anderson County High School.

The Senators defeated Clinton 30-0 in the other first-round game on Tuesday, Sept. 26.
