Clinton High School’s girls soccer team saw its historic 2023 season come to an end early last week in the District 4-AA Tournament.

The Lady Dragons, seeded third in the tourney, played No. 2 Gibbs to a 1-1 draw through regulation and overtime, only to see the host Lady Eagles advance to the region championship match and eliminate Clinton, 4-1, in a penalty kicks shootout on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Ernest Whited Stadium in Corryton.

Gibbs took a 1-0 lead in the opening half on a goal by Kylie Musto, which was assisted by Natalie Teague.

The Lady Dragons (10-3-1), who saw their campaign end in spite of the fact that the game officially goes down as a draw, pulled even in the second half when Topanga Easterday found the back of the net.

Despite seeing her team’s season come to a heartbreaking end, Lady Dragons Coach Suzanne Stout said she was pleased with the recently completed season.

“I’m really proud of the girls,” Stout said. “This was such an exciting game, and we played hard and we really hung in there.

“We lost to them 4-0 in the regular season.”

The Lady Eagles saw their season continue to Tuesday, even after falling to Anderson County in a penalty kicks shootout after the two sides played to a 0-0 draw through regulation and overtime.

The Lady Eagles and Lady Mavericks both advanced to Tuesday’s Region 2-AA Tournament elimination semifinals.

ACHS hosted Carter and Gibbs traveled to Seymour, but results were not available at press time.

Tuesday’s winners will advance to Thursday’s region championship match and to Saturday’s state sectionals.
