Clinton High School’s boys basketball team saw its early-season struggles continue last week.

The Dragons (2-5) again had problems finding their shooting touch in a 69-34 loss to Hardin Valley Academy on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at the Don W. Lockard Gymnasium.

Despite a seemingly lopsided defeat at the hands of the Hawks, Clinton Coach Chris Lockard said, “I was pleased with our effort and I was pleased with our defense. Hardin Valley is just that good.

“We had trouble offensively, and that’s been the same thing all year,” Lockard said.

“We had trouble shooting, but for some of that, you have to give credit to Hardin Valley. They’re a very good team. They’re not one dimensional. They’re good on both ends of the floor.”

Clinton managed just five points in the first quarter, and the Dragons trailed 27-15 at halftime before the Hawks blew things open with a 20-8 run in the third period.

“We got good shots but they didn’t go down,” Lockard said.

Jeremiah Lee scored 11 points and was the only CHS player to post double figures in the scoring column. He was 4-for-11 from the floor. Bryson Maddox added seven points for the Dragons.

Clinton opened District 4-AAA play Tuesday against Union County, but results were not available at press time.

The Dragons head across town Friday for the first of two regular-season meetings against Anderson County.

“We’re heading into district play and that’s our focus,” Lockard said. “Union County is a very good team and Anderson County is a very good team.

“Right now, I’m still searching for team chemistry and trying to make sure that I’m getting buy-in from everyone,” he said.

“We have to improve how we execute. Teams like Powell and Hardin Valley gave us problems because of their numbers and their depth, but that’s why you play those bigger schools.”
