Three players posted double figures in the scoring column as the Clinton High School girls basketball team notched a key early-season victory over crosstown rival Anderson County on the road Friday night.

The Lady Dragons (10-1 overall, 2-0 in District 4-AAA) overcame a 26-16 deficit against the Lady Mavericks (4-6, 0-2) en route to picking up their second league win of the 2023-24 campaign.

Clinton used a 17-4 run in the second quarter to take a 33-30 lead by halftime as Allie York had a hot shooting night. She scored 28 points and knocked down seven long-range jumpers. She was 7-for-8 from beyond the 3-point arc.

She also got plenty of help from her supporting cast as Lanee Carmichael added 18 points and Josie Moody finished with 10.

Clinton opened league play with a 62-42 victory over District 4-AAA newcomer Union County at the Don W. Lockard Gymnasium on Tuesday, Dec. 12.

Coach Alicia Phillips said the Lady Dragons were able to pull away from the Lady Patriots after halftime.

“We played okay in that game,” Phillips said. “We played pretty well in the second half.”

The Lady Dragons will host Seymour at home Thursday night.

They’ll play in a tournament in Tampa, Florida after Christmas.

“That will be a fun trip for us,” Phillips said.
