Despite battling illness, Clinton High School’s boys basketball team closed out the pre-Christmas portion of its schedule with a big victory at home.

With their 66-46 win over Seymour Thursday night at the Don W. Lockard Gymnasium, the Dragons improved to 4-6 on the season.

With many of his players ill throughout the week, Coach Chris Lockard was forced to experiment with several different combinations on the floor.

“We had guys who were really sick,” Lockard said. “We had guys who missed practice, and my rule is that if you miss practice, you don’t start. But they can’t help it that they were sick.”

Clinton had one starter who didn’t attend the game due to illness.

“(Guard) Lebron Booker wasn’t even here tonight,” Lockard said.

Still, Clinton had a lead over Seymour at halftime, as it was able to open a 30-20 advantage by the end of the second quarter.

Throughout the early stages, the Dragons have battled prolonged scoring droughts, and haven’t executed as crisply as their veteran coach would like. But they were crisper on Thursday than they have been in the past.

“I’m trying to make sure that we execute the way we want to execute, and defend the way that we want to defend,” Lockard said.

Clinton boasted a balanced offensive attack against the Eagles as Jeremiah Lee led the way with 23 points, including 14 after halftime.

Bryson Maddox added 14 points, including eight before the break.

Kaden Ison finished the contest with seven points, while Jacob Dooley scored six and Carter Nelson had five.

Clinton returned to the hardwood on Tuesday, Dec. 26, as it made its annual trip to a holiday tournament in Wayne County, Kentucky.

The event features some of the Bluegrass State’s top teams, as well as other elite squads from the Southeast.

Results from the Tuesday game were not available at press time.

Tournament play continues through Saturday.
