The winning streak reached three games for the Anderson County High School girls basketball team early this week.

The Lady Mavericks (13-8 overall, 4-3 in District 4-AAA) began a busy week with a 53-37 league victory over Scott Monday night at ACHS.

The win avenged an earlier loss to the Lady Highlanders in Huntsville.

Anderson County’s Emily Mustard was hot from distance against Scott Monday night. She scored 18 points and converted six shots from beyond the 3-point arc. Mustard made five long-range jumpers before halftime, and scored 15 of the Lady Mavericks’ 25 points in the opening 16 minutes.

Jaylynn Bullock, Anderson County’s senior point guard, and Macy Basford, the team’s leading scorer as of press time, added 11 points each against Scott.

Bullock also dished out eight assists and eclipsed the 500-assist mark in her career. Basford, Mustard and Bullock are the squad’s top scorers.

The Lady Mavs defeated Gibbs in Corryton on Friday, clinching the regular-season sweep against the Lady Eagles with a 50-35 victory.

Basford scored 22 points against Gibbs at the Jerry Sharp Gymnasium.

Mustard added 12 for ACHS, which has won four of its last five district tilts.

After a somewhat lengthy hiatus from round ball and the hardwood, the Lady Mavericks returned to the floor Thursday night and notched a key district win over Union County in Maynardville. ACHS defeated the Lady Patriots 60-49.

The game was moved to UCHS because of lighting problems in the Anderson County gym.

“It was fantastic to get back on the floor and get back to basketball,” Lady Mavs Coach Mitch Cupples said. “It was great for us all to be back and be together.

“We talked about being grateful for the opportunities that we have to play.”

Basford scored 17 points at Union County. Mustard added 16. Bethany Lowe had 13 and Bullock finished with 12.

The Lady Mavericks played at Cumberland Gap Tuesday night, but results were not available at press time.

They host a rematch against the Lady Patriots Friday. Tipoff is slated for 6:30 p.m.
