Fire at tire store ‘nightmare’ for business

An area at C&D Tire in Oak Ridge caught on fire Friday night. The Oak Ridge Fire Department quickly contained the fire.
A tire shop in Oak Ridge remained closed this week after the Oak Ridge Fire Department put out a fire at the business, C&D Tire, on Friday night, Feb. 2.

The ORFD arrived within two minutes of the call at 6:27 p.m., an email from city communications specialist Lauren Gray stated.

The firefighters got the fire under control in less than 10 minutes and extinguished it in less than 15 minutes, the city reported.

No one was injured. The city is still investigating the cause.

The fire mainly damaged a covered area behind the main shop.

ORFD set up containment booms to prevent runoff from moving down the creek behind the business.

Eighteen ORFD personnel arrived on scene, along with some personnel from the Oak Ridge Police Department and Emergency Medical Services.

The shop gave an update on Facebook after the fire.

“We are SOO very thankful for Oak Ridge Fire Department & Oak Ridge Police Department tonight. One of our worst nightmares happened tonight and we showed up to a contained fire. Their quick action SAVED our tire shop. Thank you all so very much!!!! Tonight was a nightmare, but it could have been so much worse in so many ways. We are counting our blessings,” the shop said on Facebook post. “Thank you for the thoughts & prayers, we appreciate them!”
