Wildcats’ busy week yields mixed results
A weekend tournament trip north to the Tri-Cities netted a split of two games Friday and a loss Saturday for the Oak Ridge High School baseball team.
On Saturday, the Wildcats lost to Tuscola 5-3 to close their stay at the tournament.
Richie Ferrirea had two hits in the tournament finale, and Peyton Witter went 1-for-3, recording a double and an RBI.
On Friday night, Oak Ridge defeated Class AAA state tournament qualifier Greeneville 9-3.
Freshman Warren East clubbed a home run, while Kam Welch went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored. He also drove in a run.
Cy Stephens was 2-for-3. He had two doubles, an RBI and a run.
Parker Free finished with two hits and two RBIs
Witter and Mikee Teasley each went 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
The Wildcats opened the tournament with a 7-2 loss to Sevier County.
Oak Ridge managed just three hits in the contest. Teasley doubled, while East and Free each came up with a single.
Earlier in the week, the Wildcats swept Campbell County in a two-game home-and-home District 3-4A series.
In the series opener at Bobby Hopkins Field in Oak Ridge, the Wildcats routed the Cougars 12-0.
Teasley went 1-for-1 with two runs, four stolen bases and an RBI.
Alex Franklin scored twice and had three stolen bases.
Izzy Mitchell had three runs and a stolen base against CCHS in the series opener.
Stephens singled and drove in two runs, while Witter went 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI.
After the Cougars and Wildcats were rained out on Tuesday, April 9, the two teams returned to the diamond the following day in Jacksboro with the Wildcats capturing a 22-2 victory with several Oak Ridge players having a big day at the plate.
Teasley led the way as he went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and one run scored. Two of his hits went for extra bases as he hit a home run and came up with the double.
Free doubled twice and knocked in three runs, while Alex Franklin went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Camden Britton had two hits and scored a run.
Witter crossed the plate three times, and Stephens went 1-for-1 with two runs and two RBIs.
Noah Wood singled, scored twice, and drove in two runs. Witter singled, drove in two runs and scored two more.
