Russell wins singles, Gillum, Mayes advance

He will next play in the region championships on May 13.
Mavericks’ coach Robert Byers said that Russell is one of the best tennis players this
season.
“Reese is a great player,” Byers said. “He’s one of the best players to ever come out of
Anderson County.”
In girls doubles, Anderson County’s team of Adrienne Gillum and Eberle Mayes took second place at the district tournament in Knoxville last
week.
They also qualified for next week’s regional tournament.
