The Anderson County wrestling club enjoyed success over the weekend at the USA Wrestling State Greco-Roman Championships.

The team took six wrestlers to the event in Nashville and five medaled and one won a state champion. The club’s sixth athlete won one match before being injured during the tournament.

Ace Johnson, who also wrestles for the Anderson County Lady Mavericks, claimed the state championship in the 170-pound weight class.

The club had a pair of state runners-up as Max Wolfley (who competes in the 144-pound division) and Josh Bingham (190) finished second in their respective weight classes. Both Wolfley and Bingham compete for Anderson County during the high school season.

In the 113-pound weight class, Aaron Solberg, a wrestler for Clinton High School, finished third in his division over the weekend.

In the 150-pound division, Hayden Harrell, another wrestler for the Dragons, finished fourth.

Anderson County’s Evan Prewitt also competed over the weekend. He won one match before being injured.

The club, which is coached by Clint Wolfley, is comprised of wrestlers from both the Dragons and the Mavericks.

“I started this club with wrestlers from Clinton and Anderson County and this was big for us,” Coach Wolfley said. “This shows how far wrestling has come at both places.

“We had a champion and five of our six wrestlers placed. The other one, I think, would have placed had he not gotten hurt.”
