Norris sets concert dates, beginning June 7 in Commons area
This summer’s Norris “Concerts on the Commons” series begins Friday, June 7, with a performance by Voodoo Cadillac on the outdoor stage next to the Lions Club Pavilion downtown.
Voodoo Cadillac is described as a five-member electric blues, rock, classic country and rock-a-billy group.
Four concerts are scheduled for this year. The rest include:
• June 14: My New Favorites, a four-member acoustic group playing original songs, with honky-tonk and Appalachian roots.
• June 22: Tennessee Sheiks, a nine-member group playing acoustic/electric originals, including jazz, swing and blues.
• July 4: 110 in the Shade, a six-member group performing electric, funk, soul, Motown, and R&B numbers.
All of the concerts begin at 7 p.m., and are scheduled to end by 9 p.m.
This year, for the first time, the concerts are being coordinated by the Norris Recreation Commission.
There is no admission charge, but attendees are requested to bring their own chairs or blankets to sit on in the grassy area in front of the stage, on the grounds of Norris Middle School.
The July 4 concert will be followed by a fireworks display. The Norris City Council on Monday night approved a contract with Pyro Shows to produce the same fireworks show that Norris had last year, at the same cost.
The late Jack Mitchell, who was a longtime Norris real-estate agent and publisher of the Norris Bulletin, created the concert series 16 years ago.
