Mavs qualify for state meet in track, field
Seven Anderson County High School track and field athletes will compete on the state’s
grand stage next week in Murfreesboro.
Six Mavericks and one Lady Maverick will be in action at the TSSAA Small Schools State Championships “Spring Fling” at Middle Tennessee State University.
The meet begins Tuesday.
Lady Mavs’ distance specialist Ava Moody was a sectional champion in two events Saturday at the University of Tennessee’s Tom Black Track in Knoxville. Moody won both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter run. Boys distance specialist Vance Laster took second place in the 3,200-meter run.
Mavericks sprinter Waylon LaRue finished second in the 100-meter run.
The boys’ 4x800 relay team, which consists of Ben Clotfelter, John Cutler, Ryan Basford and Vance Laster, finished first.
In the field events, thrower Luke Dark qualified for the state championships as he finished second in the shot put competition with a 56-foot, 4-inch throw.
