District 3-4A All-District Team named
Oak Ridge, which recently won the District 3-4A baseball tournament after finishing second to Knox Central in the regular-season standings, was well-represented on the all-district team when the league’s coaches announced their postseason awards.
The Wildcats had freshman Parker Free named Rookie of the Year. They also had four players receive first-team honors, including Caden Black, Mikee Teasley, Peyton Witter and Kam Welch.
Alex Franklin and Cy Stephens were named to the district’s all-academic team for the Wildcats, who won a district tournament championship for the first time since 2002.
Oak Ridge won the district title with a 5-4 victory over the top-seeded Bobcats on Monday, May 6, at Tommy Schumpert Park.
On Saturday, the Wildcats qualified for the state sectionals with a 9-5 win over Maryville. They opened region tournament play with a 7-1 victory over Maryville Friday at John Heatherly Field at The Ballpark in Farragut.
Oak Ridge dropped the Region 2-4A championship game to the host Admirals 21-2 before bouncing back to take the tournament runner-up spot with a 9-5 win over Maryville.
Oak Ridge, will make its first state sectionals appearance
since 1993 when it travels to Sevier County for a best-of-three series, which opens today.
