River Boys have split week of play
The River Boys split a pair of games Sunday at Jaycee Park.
They defeated West Blount 4-3 and lost to the Diamond Dawgs 12-5 to close out the weekend.
Pitcher William Easterday hurled a complete game against West Blount as he went seven innings. He gave up three unearned runs and 11 hits, and didn’t walk a batter. He finished the contest with four strikeouts.
Offensively, JP Robbins and Erik Tirado each collected a pair of hits. Tirado doubled and stole a base, while Robbins went 2-for-2 and scored a run. Brennan Tipton singled, drove in a run and stole two bases.
Against the Diamond Dawgs, Robbins was 2-for-3. He had three stolen bases and scored two runs. Tipton had two hits, including a double. He also had one RBI and a run scored. He stole a base.
Tirado walked three times. He also had three stolen bases and scored two runs.
The River Boys also split a pair of contests on Saturday.
They routed the Emerald Force 10-2, and dropped a 10-1 decision against the Knoxville Ice Blue.
They were hot early against the force as they scored six runs in the first inning and added four more in the second frame. Easterday, Jackson Webb and Tipton had two hits each. Easterday scored a run and drove in another. Webb and Tipton each scored twice
Against the Knoxville Ice, the River Boys pounded out seven hits but committed eight errors.
They outhit Knoxville 7-5.
Robbins had two hits, including a double, and Webb also came up with two hits.
On Thursday, the River Boys made the trip to Corryton and salvaged a split with the Graveston Freebirds, winning the first game, 7-0 and falling in the nightcap 9-8.
In the first game at Steve Hunley Field, three River Boys’ pitchers combined on a one-hit shutout against the Freebirds. Will Brooks, Sam Raley and Jackson Barrett combined to keep Graveston off the scoreboard.
Dallas Beets had two hits.
Will Brook scored and recorded an RBI, while Brent Shaffer singled, scored and drove in a run.
The Freebirds won the second game 9-8, despite the fact that the teams combined for just seven hits.
The River Boys got hits from Caleb Holt, who doubled, and Tirado and Landry Jennings.
On Tuesday, June 4, the River Boys split a doubleheader against the Coal Creek Bulls, their crosstown rivals, on the road.
Despite losing the first game 2-0, Chase Jaslove and Beets combined to toss a two-hitter.
The River Boys came back to take the nightcap, capturing a 1-0 victory. Jayden Cuevas, Gideon Follett and Shaffer combined on the shutout.
The River Boys travel to North Knoxville Thursday for a doubleheader against the Broadway Hawks.
Game 1 is slated for 6 p.m.
