Bulls have busy week on the diamond

The Coal Creek Bulls had a busy weekend on the diamond.

They played four games Saturday and one game Sunday against top travel teams and lost all five games.

On Sunday, the Bulls lost in walk-off fashion, falling 6-5 against Knox Ice 16U.

Jack Wilson went 1-for-1 and scored two runs, while Eli Ledford and Elijah Johnson each singled and scored. Lee Goins went 0-for-3 but recorded an RBI in the contest.

On Saturday, the Bulls played four games, losing all of them.

Coal Creek fell 9-8 to Base Knox White 15U.

In that game, Goins was 2-for-3 and knocked in a run. Hunter Brummett doubled and scored, and Johnson came up with a double and an RBI.

In another game Saturday, the Bulls lost 10-1 to Knox Ice 16U.

Wilson had a single and drove in the lone run for the Bulls, who also lost 5-0 to the Knoxville Ice 18U team.

In that game, Jeremiah Owens came up with three hits and Morgan Clark went 2-for-3.

In their final game Saturday, the Bulls fell 4-3 to eXposure 17U, despite holding a 3-0 lead after the second inning.

Clark went 2-for-3. He recorded a double, a stolen base and a run. Clay Fletcher was 2-for-4 with a run and a stolen base. AJ Colorusso doubled and knocked in a run, and Daniel Unthank singled and had an RBI.

On Thursday, Coal Creek split a doubleheader at home against the Broadway Hawks.

In Game 1, four Bulls pitchers (Fletcher, Blake Lowe, Colorusso and Max Giles) threw a combined no hitter.

Colorusso also swung a hot bat as he went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Both his hits were doubles against the Hawks. Easton Beaty also had three hits. He doubled, drove in three runs and scored two more. Brummett came up with a triple and three RBIs. Giles also had two hits and drove in a run.

Coal Creek lost the second game to Broadway 5-1, despite two hits and an RBI by Goins. Reese Young also doubled and scored in Game 2 against the Hawks.

On Tuesday, June 4, Coal Creek split a doubleheader against the River Boys, winning the first game 2-0 and falling in the nightcap 1-0.

In Game 1, Beaty threw a complete game. He gave up three hits and one walk over five innings. He had eight strikeouts. He also doubled in the contest.

Clay Fletcher and Reece Wilkerson each had an RBI single against the River Boys.

In the nightcap, Ledford had the only hit for the Bulls, who play a doubleheader at home against the Townsend Mountaineers Thursday at 6 p.m.
