River Boys split double header with Hawks

The River Boys 18U baseball team continued its 2024 summer season last week. The River Boys split a double header on the road Thursday against the Broadway Hawks in North Knoxville.

The River Boys won the first game, 12-0, at Christenberry Elementary School as pitchers Aden Golden and Will Brooks combined to throw a perfect game. Golden went two innings and struck out three, while Brooks pitched a scoreless third frame, the final inning of the contest.

Offensively, the River Boys pounded out 17 hits.

Brooks had three hits and drove in two runs, while Jackson Webb went 2-for-3, scored three runs and had one RBI. Brennan Tipton was 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Golden had two hits, including a double. He drove in one run and scored another. Brent Shaffer doubled and scored. He also had an RBI.

Leadoff man J.P. Robbins went 2-for-3 and scored a run for the River Boys, who scored seven runs in the third inning.

The Hawks bounced back to take Game 2, winning 9-4.

Jaxon Young went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs for the River Boys, while Gideon Follett singled and drove in a run.

On Tuesday, June 11, the River Boys were swept in a double header at West Blount. They lost the first game, 8-0, while collecting just four hits as Brooks, Tipton, Dallas Beets and Matt Denton all singled.

In Game 2, West Blount prevailed, 2-0, and held the River Boys to just two hits in the game. Young singled in his lone official at-bat and Erik Tirado singled and stole a base.

The River Boys host crosstown rival Coal Creek in a double header Thursday. Action begins at 6 p.m. at Jaycee Park.
