Coal Creek team posts four wins

The Coal Creek 18U baseball team split a doubleheader Sunday.

The Bulls defeated Victory Baseball 9-0 in the first game. Coal Creek lost the second game, falling to the Kentucky Colonels 8-5.

The win over Victory Baseball was Coal Creek’s third over the travel team in two days.

Against Victory Baseball on Sunday, pitcher Hayden Ault threw a one-hit shutout in a four-inning complete game. He walked two and struck out one.

Aydin Bond clubbed a home run for the Bulls. He was 2-for-3. He had four RBIs and scored two. Morgan Clark was 1-for-3. He scored twice, stole a base and knocked in a run.

Elijah Johnson went 2-for-3. He legged out a triple, stole a base, scored a run and drove in another. Tripp Haire doubled and scored for the Bulls.

Against the Colonels, Clark was 2-for-3. He scored a run and came up with two RBIs, while Bond went 2-for-2.

In a rare scheduled Friday night doubleheader, Coal Creek swept Victory Baseball late last week.

The Bulls won the first game 8-4, and claimed the nightcap 5-3.

In Game 1, Coal Creek’s Bond went 2-for-2. He had four RBIs and scored two runs, He also doubled and stole two bases. Clark was 2-for-2. He scored twice and had one stolen base.

Lane Fletcher was 1-for-2. He had a double, an RBI and a run scored for Coal Creek, which collected 13 hits in the contest.

On the mound, the Bulls used two pitchers. Max Giles went four innings. He gave up four runs, three earned, four hits and two walks. He finished his outing with three strikeouts. Lee Goins pitched a scoreless fifth inning. He had one strikeout.

In Game 2, a 5-3 victory for the Bulls, pitcher Reece Young threw a complete game. He pitched six innings and allowed three runs (two earned), three hits and two walks. He had seven strikeouts.

AJ Colorusso was 1-for-2. He had a stolen base and drove in a run, while Clark was 1-fot-1, He scored two runs and drove in another. He drew a pair of walks.

The Bulls opened the week by splitting a double header against The River Boys, its crosstown rival. Coal Creek was no-hit in the first game as four pitchers (Chase Jaslove, Will Brooks, Aden Golden and Jackson Barrett) tossed a combined no- hitter. The Bulls came up on the short end of a 1-0 decision.

Coal Creek pitcher Easton Beaty had a complete game on the mound. He gave up two hits and one unearned run, along with two walks. He had seven strikeouts.

The Bulls bounced back to earn a 3-1 win in the second game.

Luke Childress threw a complete game. He pitched five innings and surrendered one unearned run, two hits and one walk. He struck out five.
