Clinch River Quilts of Valor members donate quilts to Isaiah 117 House

Quilts of Valor members Mary Young, Gwen Cole and Monika Wooten sewed 100 quilts, 100 pillowcases, and 25 pairs of pajamas for Isaiah 177 House Anderson.
As members of the Clinch River Quilts of Valor, Gwen Cole, Monika Wooden, Cheryl Norman and Mary Young are dedicated to making quilts to honor and comfort local veterans.

When these active community volunteers heard that Isaiah House 117 Anderson was coming to Clinton, they saw another opportunity to help.

Isaiah 117, a nonprofit organization, provides a safe haven for children who are removed from their homes out of concern for their safety.

Cole, Wooden, Norman and Young embraced the challenge and just sewed faster and longer than ever. The ladies used their talent to create 100 quilts, 100 pillowcases, and 25 pairs of pajamas.

Now, when Isaiah 117 House holds an open house on July 28, its walls and beds will be brightened by these works of love.

The sewers’ generosity also means each child will get to choose his or her very own quilt to snuggle with and take to the foster home.

“We hope these quilts give comfort and security to each child,” said Cole.

“We at Isaiah 117 House were absolutely thrilled to receive such an amazing blessing,” said Andrea Townsend, program coordinator for Isaiah 117 House Anderson.

“The beautiful quilts that were stitched with love will bring a sense of comfort and security to a child who has probably never felt those feelings before,” she said.

Cole, who is also vice president of the Clinton Lions Club, serves as the Quilts of Valor state district coordinator and Clinch River group leader.
