American Legion dedicating new building

You can get a chance to see the new building for American Legion Post 172 on Saturday, July 27.

The dedication and open house event, open to the public, will be from noon until 3 p.m. at 436 Spring St. in Clinton.

The post will serve light refreshments.

The building will serve as a meeting place for the organization, which helps veterans and works with other civic organizations.

“It’s just a more modern building, and it should last us for a long, long time,” said post Commander David Farmer.

The post was formed in the 1920s and has had a building on Spring Street since the 1930s, Miller said. The original log building deteriorated to the point the post couldn’t use it anymore.

The post then used a mobile home with an addition, but it, too, deteriorated, and was too small. With help from donations, the post now has a better home.

“We are grateful to the community and to all the donors who have made it possible for us to continue to serve the veterans of Anderson County,” Miller said.

Anderson County Veteran Services Officer Scott Nation praised the organization in comments

to The Courier

“They do more to assist veterans in other ways that I cannot provide assistance for,” he said.
