Coal Creek shines in ETBD World Series
Bulls swipe 11 bags in 14-5 win over HBF Baseball
The Coal Creek 18U baseball team won three of its four games late last week in the East Tennessee Baseball District World Series.
The Bulls completed the week with a 4-2 loss to Team Ontario Saturday night at Anderson County High School.
The Canadian team took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning before Coal Creek answered with a single run in the bottom of the frame. The Bulls lost the game despite outhitting Ontario 12-3.
First baseman AJ Colorusso came up with three hits for the Bulls, who added a run in the bottom of the fifth, but never led in the game.
Lead-off hitter Reece Wilkerson had two hits and a run scored. He also walked twice.
Easton Beaty, Ty Wilson and Clay Fletcher had three hits each for the Bulls.
On Saturday morning, Coal Creek defeated HBF Baseball (Decherd, Tennessee) 14-5 at Anderson County High School.
In that game, the Bulls were active on the bases as they swiped 11 bags. They also came up with three extra-base hits, all doubles.
Beaty went 2-for-2. He recorded two RBIs, two walks, one double, one run and three stolen bases.
Wilson was 2-for-3. He had two stolen bases, drove in two runs, and scored another.
Fletcher was 1-for-1 with two runs scored. He also walked twice and recorded a stolen base for Coal Creek, which opened a 5-0 lead in the opening frame.
Colorusso was 1-for-1. He doubled, scored three runs, stole two bases and knocked in a run.
Wilkerson went 1-for-4. He had a pair of stolen bases, a double, a run scored and an RBI.
On the mound for the Bulls, Landry Sharp pitched a complete game, hurling five innings. He gave up five runs (one earned), five hits and two walks. He finished the game with two strikeouts.
On Friday night, Coal Creek (17-15) shut out Diamond Dawgs 16/17 by a score of 9-0 as Landon Notaro and Lee Goins combined to throw a one-hit shutout.
Notaro started and earned the win on the mound for Coal Creek. He tossed five innings, walking three and striking out five. Goins pitched the sixth. He gave up one hit and struck out three.
The Bulls scored three runs in the first inning. They added two in the second, one in fifth and three in the sixth.
Fletcher went 3-for-4 with a triple and five RBIs.
Coal Creek opened tournament play on Thursday with a 7-5 win over the Jackson 96ers as Sharp and Wilkerson each went 1-for-4 with a double.
Wilkerson drove in three runs and scored another. Sharp also scored.
Fletcher finished with two hits and scored twice.
Kris Pelliccio pitched a complete game, going seven innings.
He gave up five runs, seven hits and two walks. He had six strikeouts.
