Historically speaking: CHS Dragons 139-153 all-time against 2024 opponents

Clinton High School will open its 2024 football season when it travels to Cleveland on Friday, Aug. 23.

Against this season’s opponents, Clinton has an overall 139-153 record.

The Dragons are coming off a 2023 campaign that saw them go 6-7 and reach the state quarterfinals for the first time since the early 1990s.

Clinton has six regular-season road games on its slate. After opening against the Blue Raiders, the Dragons head to Knoxville and Sutherland Avenue to take on defending Class 5A state champion West High.

This year’s meeting marks the fourth against Cleveland, and the Dragons head to Bradley County looking for their first-ever win against the Blue Raiders. The series dates to 1993.

The West Rebels and the Dragons have met 20 previous times, with West holding a 13-7 advantage in the series that was initiated in 1972.

On Sept. 6, Clinton will host Scott in its first home game of the 2024 campaign. The Dragons are 3-0 all-time against the Highlanders. The teams first played in 2017.

Clinton opens region play against Campbell County on Sept 13.

The Cougars and Dragons have played 43 times, with Clinton having 32 all-time wins against the Cougars. The two rivals first tangled on the gridiron in 1975

CHS hosts longtime rival Powell on Sept. 20. The teams have played 45 times, with the Panthers holding a 23-22 lead in the all-time series.

On Sept. 27, the Dragons head to Blankenship Field to play longtime rival Oak Ridge.

The two schools have played 64 times since 1943, with the Wildcats holding a 50-14 edge in the series.

The two squads met twice last season, with Oak Ridge winning at Clinton in the regular season, and the Dragons coming back to win in the second round of the playoffs on the road.

On Oct. 4, the Dragons head across town to play Anderson County. That series began in 1985. The Mavericks have won 28 of the 36 meetings.

Clinton will entertain Lenoir City on Oct. 11. This will be the 27th all-time meeting between the Dragons and Loudon County’s Panthers. Clinton leads the all-time series 13-12, with the teams playing to one tie.

After an open date, on Oct. 18, the Dragons travel to Karns to face Coach Lee Warren’s Beavers. The all-time series dates to 1957, with Clinton leading 31-8, with two ties.

The Dragons close out the regular season on Nov. 1 against Heritage in Blount County. Clinton has played the Mountaineers 13 times, and has defeated Heritage in 10 of those games.

The teams began their series in 1979.
