AC school board to meet Aug. 8.
The Anderson County Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, in the Robert Jolley Building, 101 South Main St., Clinton.
The meeting will include votes on allowing Anderson County High School to raise money for new tennis courts, and on a rental agreement for a Turf Tank to draw lines on fields at Clinton High School.
Several budget changes are also up for a vote including $1.4 million for the anticipated cost for a new Claxton Elementary School. A transfer of $255.85 in funds for English Language Learners supplies, will, if it passes, help teach English to Ukrainian speakers at Lake City Elementary School and Lake City Middle School.
Several policies are up for second reading, meaning this will be the final vote on them.
These involve school visitors, the school calendar, security, zero-tolerance offenses, use of artificial intelligence, suspensions, admission of suspended or expelled students, and reporting child abuse, among other issues.
Other policies up for first reading, meaning they’ll need a second vote at a later meeting, involve selling surplus school property, class size and pupil-teacher ratios, substitute teachers, grading systems ,and family life education – which includes state laws requiring students to watch an ultrasound and learn about fetal development.
Discussion of credit-recovery programs will also be part of the meeting.
