Plummer strikes out 11 in season opener

The middle school fall softball season opened last week, with the Lady Mavericks splitting their two official games.

Anderson County opened the 2024 campaign with an 11-0 victory over Karns on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

Kenza Plummer delivered a dominant performance in the circle as she pitched a complete game, allowing just two hits and two walks. She had 11 strikeouts against the Lady Beavers.

The Lady Mavericks recorded nine hits in the contest. Izzy Metcalf swung a big bat against Karns as she went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored.

She hit a pair of extra-base hits, including a double and a triple.

Lead-off hitter Harlee Taylor was 2-for-3, scoring two runs and driving in another for the Lady Mavericks, who opened the game with three runs in the first inning.

They added four in the second frame and one in the third. They also scored four times in the fourth.

Adyson Armstrong was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, three stolen bases, one run, and a double.

Tessa Patrick singled and scored, while Riley Gibson scored two runs and drove in another.

On Thursday, the Lady Mavericks committed seven errors in an 11-3 loss to Jefferson County.

Anderson County got two hits from Taylor, who was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, and an RBI against the Lady Patriots.

Anderson County co-hosted a playday with Clinton on Saturday. The Lady Mavericks lost all three games, falling to Knoxville Halls (15-2), Gibbs (11-7), and Farragut (5-3).
