Wildcats golf triumphs in home match
Oak Ridge High School’s boys golf team played Tennessee National in Loudon Thursday afternoon and finished second in a three-way match against Maryville and Christian Academy of Knoxville.
In the match, hosted by the Christian Academy Warriors, the three teams played the par-36 front nine.
The Maryville Rebels won the match with a team total of 146. The Wildcats finished with an overall score of 154, while CAK had a team score of 161.
“We had two of our top three guys shoot under par, and now our goal is to shoot 150 as a team,” Oak Ridge Coach Scott Hinton said. “Right now, I’m happy with where we’re at. We’re in the low 150s. In order to compete with the teams in our district and our region, we need to shoot 150 as a team and that’s our next goal.”
Senior Jack Bentz and Lewis Niad both had rounds under par for the Wildcats. Both players shot 35. Hunter Hinton had a 41 for the day, and Kaleb Jackson rounded out the Oak Ridge scoring as he posted a 43. The Wildcats’ Bryson Pemberton shot 50.
On Tuesday, Aug. 13, Oak Ridge hosted a match at its home course, Oak Ridge Country Club. It was a four-way match featuring the Wildcats, Anderson County, Concord Christian School and Karns.
Oak Ridge won the match with a team score of 153. The Wildcats defeated the Concord Christian Lions (156) and the Anderson County Mavericks (157).
The Karns Beavers had an incomplete team score after one of their players left the course before turning in his scorecard.
The teams played the par-36 front nine at ORCC.
Niad was the Wildcats’ top scorer as he fired a 2-under 34. Bentz had a 37. Hunter Hinton finished at 39. Jackson shot 43 to round out the ORHS scoring. Pemberton shot 48.
Lady Wildcats’ freshman has big week: Oak Ridge freshman Lilly Grace Langenberg played in both of the ORHS matches last week and posted a round of 54 at both events.
