Wolfe and Hannah shine in second place finish
The Clinton High School boys golf team played just one match last week, competing in a three-way contest on Monday, Aug. 19, at Centennial Golf Course.
The Dragons secured a second-place finish.
Campbell County won the event with a team score of 166. Clinton shot 178, while Oliver Springs finished with a team total of 191 on the par-36, back-9.
Team captain Braden Wolfe led the way for the Dragons, carding a 38. Grant Hannah shot a 39, Isaiah Williams finished with a 48, Camden Nelson had a 53, and Bo Mauri posted a 54.
Clinton Coach Matt Cain said he was extremely pleased with the performances of Wolfe and Hannah.
“Braden and Grant really stepped up, and they played great,” Cain said. “Braden is a leader, and he leads by example. We had practice Thursday night, and Grant was there 30 minutes early, already working and doing his drills.”
The Lady Dragons also competed early last week at Centennial, defeating the Lady Cougars by 14 strokes with a 109-123 victory.
Kinley Crowley led Clinton with a 54, while Sahara Lowe also carded a 54.
Cain expressed pride in the Lady Dragons for earning a victory on a day when they didn’t play their best.
“It wasn’t our best performance, but they did what they had to do to win, and I was happy with that,” Cain said.
The Dragons and Lady Dragons played the first of two matches at LaFollette Country Club on Monday, but results were not available at press time.
They’ll play in LaFollette
again on Thursday when they take on Campbell County and Gibbs.
