Learn about vaping risks in new class
A program in its second year is letting parents and students get answers to the questions they may have about e-cigarettes and their dangers.
Allies for Substance Abuse of Anderson County began its newest Vaping Referral Course Aug. 24.
Shayla Wilson, ASAP of Anderson County’s executive director, spoke about the program to the Clinton City Council at its Aug. 26 meeting.
She said the program is for parents and students to attend together. The course lets them ask questions from experts.
Parents and students may still sign up for the Sept. 28 and Nov. 16 coursed, both of which are from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Anderson County Career and Technical Center, 140 Maverick Circle, Clinton. Sign up forms are at asapofanderson.org/.
“We are excited to continue that class this year and provide students with increased knowledge around the harms of vaping, but also educate parents on what they can be looking for,” Wilson said.
“It is getting as low as third and fourth grade, and that is not something that I wanted to report,” she said.
“But it is the truth of what is going on.”
