Robertsville wins TVAC regular-season title
Robertsville Middle School secured the 2024 Tennessee Valley Athletic Conference regular-season championship with a commanding 36-0 victory over defending champions Norris on Thursday night at Anderson County High School.
The Rams (7-1 overall, 7-0 in TVAC play) scored all their points in the first half, setting the stage for a rematch with the Senators (4-3, 4-3) in the coming TVAC playoffs at Blankenship Field.
Josiah McClure was the standout for Robertsville, rushing for 188 yards and two touchdowns on just four carries.
His scoring runs covered 80 and 51 yards, contributing to the Rams’ total of more than 300 rushing yards.
Le’Meire Porter also had a stellar performance, carrying the ball six times for 53 yards and scoring twice on runs of 40 and 14 yards.
Porter also accounted for four two-point conversions, running for two and passing for two others.
Jaxon Billingsley added 26 rushing yards on four carries and converted a two-point attempt.
The Rams, who have thrived on explosive plays this season, completed just one of four passing attempts.
“We’ve scored on big plays,” said Rams Coach Ron Gray. “We scored 36 points on just 24 plays. Against Jefferson on Sept. 19, we scored 42 points on just 23 plays, and we’ve played the second half with a running clock in each of the last two weeks.”
McClure, who began the season as the Rams’ starting quarterback but missed two games due to injury, has accumulated 807 rushing yards this season and is averaging 23 yards per carry.
Gray said he believes McClure could reach 1,000 rushing yards by the end of the season.
Porter, meanwhile, is averaging 10 yards per carry.
Defensively, the Rams were just as dominant.
Kamoni Willis grabbed two interceptions and returned a fumble 60 yards for a touchdown.
Kashton Seaman also had an interception, while Ben Hartman recovered two Norris fumbles.
Braylon Payne got two sacks and a fumble recovery, and Jarell Currey added a sack. Porter finished with seven tackles, and Dominic Campbell contributed five.
Robertsville will now prepare to face Norris again in the TVAC playoffs, with high hopes of continuing their successful season.
