Laster leads Mavericks to victory at Roane State


Anderson County’s Vance Laster com- pleted the Roane State All-comers Cross Country meet with a time of 16:35.0. He was the top finisher and completed the course with a 1:18 lead over the second place finisher.
Anderson County High School’s boys cross country team claimed victory at the Roane State All-Comers Meet last week in Harriman.

The Mavericks secured first place at the meet on Wednesday, Oct. 2, with two runners finishing in the top five, including the overall champion.

Vance Laster won the individual title, completing the 5,000-meter course in 16 minutes, 35 seconds. John Cutler finished third with a time of 17:59. Avian Laster placed 11th, clocking in at 19:29.

Other notable finishes for Anderson County included Toby Day, who finished 25th (20:47), Zander Vo, who came in 27th (20:54), Stevie Johnson, who placed 39th (21:48), and Tanner Warman, who rounded out the team’s performance in 48th with a time of 22:21.

In the girls’ race, the Lady Mavericks had four entrants, with two finishing in the top 10. Sydney Day placed seventh with a time of 23:53, and Rebekah Berg took ninth (25:11). Emma Owens finished 23rd (28:15), while Cassie Newman placed 27th, clocking in at 30:18.
