Lady Wildcats advance to semifinals with 9-0 win over Campbell County
Oak Ridge High School’s girls soccer team opened the District 3-AAA Tournament with a 9-0 victory over Campbell County on Saturday afternoon.
The third-seeded Lady Wildcats had four different players score against the sixth-seeded Lady Cougars.
Edie Westin led Oak Ridge (8-5-1) with a hat trick. Hannah Morris and Hayven Laurendine each scored two goals, while Lilah Kim and Ella Pavinich also found the back of the net for the Lady Wildcats.
With the win over Campbell County, Oak Ridge advanced to the tournament semifinals. The Lady Wildcats were scheduled to travel to Fountain City to face Knox Central at Dan Y. Boring Stadium on Tuesday, but results were not available at press time. The second-seeded Lady Bobcats defeated Oak Ridge 6-2 during the regular season.
The Lady Wildcats closed the regular season with a 2-0 victory over Knoxville Catholic at home Thursday night.
“That was a good game and a big win for us,” Oak Ridge coach Trenna Underwood said. “We saw their result against Webb (a 2-1 loss) and knew they tied Chattanooga Girls Preparatory School, so we knew they were going to be a pretty good team.”
Laurendine scored both of Oak Ridge’s goals against the Lady Irish.
Oak Ridge started the week with a 3-3 draw against Anderson County on Tuesday, Sept. 30.
Underwood expressed disappointment with the draw against the Lady Mavericks.
“It was a disappointment,” she said. “We had a 3-1 lead, but we’ve had a lot of injuries this year, and it was our first game playing in our new system. We were basically beaten by one player. (Emma) Leander scored all three of their goals. She’s a great player and was just taking shots from all over the place.”
Laurendine scored twice against Anderson County, and Kim also tallied in the match.
