Anderson County High School’s volleyball team recently completed its 2024 regular season, finishing with more than 20 wins

and securing a share of the District 4-AA title with nine league victories.

The Lady Mavericks, who were seeded No. 2 in Tuesday’s district tournament, had just two seniors on the roster. While they hosted the tournament, results were unavailable at press time.

Seniors Shelby Kelly and Alyssa Meier played key roles for Anderson County, but head coach Jayme Smith expressed optimism for the tournament, citing the improvement of the team’s younger players throughout the season.

The Lady Mavericks, who shared the regular-season title with Alcoa, faced one of the toughest schedules in the area.

“I would say that we’ve definitely gotten better,” Smith said. “We just need to see if we can peak at the right time.”

Anderson County’s regular season included non-district matchups against District 4-AAA champion Farragut and runner-up Bearden, testing the team’s resilience.

They also recently defeated crosstown rival Clinton, which enters its district tournament with a school-record 32 wins and an unbeaten district record for the second consecutive year. The Lady Mavericks also opened their season with a victory over Oak Ridge.
