One area high school golfer ended his prep career on Tennessee’s grand stage and got a glimpse of what might await him in the future.

Oak Ridge High School senior Jack Bentz competed in the Class AA state golf championships late last week.

Bentz, who reached the state championships twice in the past three years, tied for 21st in the two-day, 36-hole event.

He shot a two-round total of 151, and finished 7-over par on the

par-72 Sevierville Golf Club Highlands

Course.

“It was a good way for Jack to end his high school career,” Wildcats Coach Scott Hinton said.

“I think he was a little disappointed after winning the district and what he shot at regionals. He expected to go there and play well. He didn’t play badly, but he had a chance to finish in the Top 10 or Top 15. The competition was great there.”

Bentz, who won the District 4-AA tournament and shot a 66 at the Region 2-AA tournament, is a Carson-Newman signee. He’ll play his collegiate home matches at Sevierville Golf Club.

“He just couldn’t get anything going, and on Friday, he was one-under through the first 10 holes,” Hinton said. “But this was a good experience for him because he’s going to Carson-Newman, and he’ll play there a

lot. Whenever Carson-Newman hosts a match, they host in Sevierville.”
