CHS band headed to competition

Clinton High School’s Marching Band plans to compete at the Bands of America Regional Competition on Oct. 19.

“We’re traveling all the way out to Johnson City for that one,” said Keaton Cook, a CHS student who represents Clinton High School at Anderson County Board of Education meetings.

The band plans to play at 10 a.m. that day and awards will be at 10:30 p.m. CHS will be competing against bands from Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky, Georgia, Virginia, Ohio and Arkansas.

Meanwhile, however, CHS hosted its own competition as a fundraiser, the Clinch River Classic, on Sept. 21 at Dragon Stadium, hosting other schools from around East Tennessee.

“We received a lot of positive feedback from all the bands that came, and it was a great fundraiser,” Cook said.

Cook also spoke of the officer skill-building event for the school’s DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) at Dollywood.

He also said business leaders met with each CHS grade level and discussed different topics. Seniors such as himself met with Lorie Wilson of Foundation Mortgage to discuss credit scores.
